Sigil is a collective based in Beirut and New York City. It was founded in 2014 by Salim al-Kadi, Khaled Malas, Alfred Tarazi and Jana Traboulsi. Along with multiple interlocutors and associates, they have produced a series of representational and site-specific interventions titled ‘monuments of the everyday’: ‘Excavating the Sky’, ‘Current Power in Syria’ and ‘Birdsong’ most often include a narrative element in the form of a publication, and two spatial components on site and exhibited. These projects seek to explore the simultaneously marvelous and terrifying metamorphoses of the Arab landscape marked by historical and contemporary struggles.
